The Società di Incoraggiamento allo Studio del Disegno e di Conservazione delle Opere dArte in Valsesia – ONLUS
(Society for the Support to the Study of Drawing and for the Preservation of the Artworks in Valsesia) is a non-profit organization [...] and the proprietor of the Art Gallery and the Calderini Natural Science Museum, both located in the Museum Palace in Varallo. The main purpose of the Association is to supervise and promote the artistic patrimony of the Museum with a progressive restauration of the collections and the building: since 1995, the church once dedicated to Saint Carl, most of the roofing, the part of the building hosting the offices and the historical Adunance Hall have already been renewed, alongside with the museum rooms dedicated to the Renaissance, Baroque and 19th
Century art. The current set-up has been realized thanks to the generous participation of the Piedmont region, the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli
and the Fondazione Banca Popolare di Novara per il Territorio
. An important contribution to the purposes of the Association comes from the Comune of Varallo and the work of many volunteers, and from the collaboration with the Ente di gestione sei Sacri Monti
(Sacri Monti Management Institution). The Società
now aims to reopen the Calderini Natural Science Museum, located on the second floor of the Palace, to convert into museum halls the ground floor, once dedicated to the Barolo School, and to promote the historical Adunance Hall.
The Association is currently administered by a Board of Directors of eleven members with a three-year mandate, seven of which are elected by the members of the Association, one by the Comune of Varallo, one by the Comunità Montana Valsesia (Valsesia Mountain Community), one by the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Vercelli and one represents the Office for Holy Art and Cultural Property of the Diocese of Novara.
